OUR TECHNIQUES

THE WINEMAKING PROCESS

Sonoma-Cutrer has always pursued harmony with our environment and precision at every step of the winemaking journey – qualities expressed in every bottle. The life of our wines begins long before the first bud appears on the vine, shaped by the unique interplay of soil, climate and topography known as terroir. While many varieties can grow in the Russian River Valley and Sonoma Coast, Chardonnay and Sauvignon Blanc thrive here, revealing the distinctive character and provenance that define our wines.

FRENCH OAK BARRELS

Hand-crafted by two families in France, each barrel is the result of generations of expertise passed down through skilled cooperages. Built to exacting specifications from carefully selected, sustainably harvested trees, every stave is shaped, seasoned, and assembled with a level of precision that only true master-craftsmen can achieve.

SORTED BY HAND

Hand sorting is a meticulous, hands-on process that ensures only the finest fruit makes it into the wine. After harvest, clusters are spread across a sorting table where skilled team members carefully separate leaves, stems, and any damaged or underripe grapes from the pristine berries. This extra layer of precision protects purity, enhances flavor, and preserves the integrity of the vintage, allowing only the best fruit to continue on its journey from vineyard to bottle.
